GDPR
The GDPR legislation came into full effect within the European Union (EU) on 25 May 2018.
GDPR updates and replaces the European Data Protection directive of 1995 and the related Data Protection laws passed in individual EU territories, though individual countries have since published their own data protection laws to enforce specific requirements to the extent permitted by the GDPR. The law reflects technological and social changes over the past years and strengthens the rights of individuals using social media, on-line financial services and so on, in the face of new techniques such as biometrics and profiling.
